In 2013, a client’s bulk carrier of 75000DWT suffered from bent rudder stock, after grounding. A team of technicians boarded in order to assess the extent of damage and remove defective parts. The rudder stock and the tiller were found damaged. The rudder was brought in our workshop where it was straightened using our heavy duty hydraulic press of 600tons and controlled heating at the same time. The rudder deformation was monitored carefully at all times, during the process with dial gauges and sensors. During repairs, the tiller key way was also restored. The project was closely supervised by vessel’s classification society NKK. It took a week to rectify damage including dismantling and re-assembly.
