Laser cladding is globally known as the most advanced surface restoration technique, with unique advantages over others.

These advantages make it the perfect solution for the reliable restoration of main and crankpin journals of marine crankshafts. Since 2011, we have repeatedly restored marine crankshafts of various types successfully.

One of the cases we encountered was that of a customer whose auxiliary engine, a MAN B&W 5L23/30, suffered from main and crankpin journals damage.

As the spare crankshaft had a long delivery time and undersize bearings were hard to get on time, machining of all journals to undersize was not a solution. Therefore, we restored all journals on our laser cladding cell, followed by machining and grinding to final and standard dimensions. The whole process ended at a lower cost, compared with the previous two options, and reduced downtime.
