Crankshaft failures cause long engine downtime and high expenses.  KIMI offers ship operators two options for repairing their four-stroke crankshafts, in-situ crankshaft repair and repair with laser cladding. In-situ crankshaft repair, whenever feasible, is a cost-saving solution as it minimizes downtime and subsequently eliminates costs. However, wherever dismantling and transportation of the crankshaft is not difficult or uneconomical, laser cladding advantage is that journals are restored to their original diameter.

Through intensive R&D and field trials, KIMI developed a cutting edge journal tooling for in- situ machining. Until today, KIMI has successfully carried out in-situ machining for a number of different cases, always without dismantling the crankshaft from the engine.

  • Grinding of crankpin and main journal fillets
